If your Elite gate keypad has gone dark or your intercom crackles every time a delivery driver buzzes, we can usually have it repaired or replaced same-day in Miami. Most Elite keypad and intercom repairs run between $185 and $410 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a weathered keypad face, a failed intercom board, or the entire entry station. The typical story we hear is that the keypad starts missing button presses after heavy rain, or the intercom voice gets so garbled that homeowners start walking out to the gate just to talk to visitors. That’s usually when we get the call.
Dean Prescott and our crew have been fixing Elite entry systems across Miami since 2008. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite, but we stock and install their keypads, intercom modules, and entry hardware on our trucks every day. Here’s what Miami homeowners need to know before they spend a dollar on a part.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite builds several entry station families, and the wrong part is the single most common reason a repair fails twice. The SL series (SL-3000, SL-3100) uses a flush-mount keypad with a ribbon connector that’s known to corrode at the bottom edge after a few Miami rainy seasons. The PR series (PR-4, PR-5) runs an intercom board with a separate power supply, and that power supply is the first thing to check when the audio drops. The CK series keypads are older, analog, and worth replacing rather than patching if they’re more than eight years old. Find the model label inside the keypad housing or on the side of the intercom module. If the label is sun-bleached or missing, measure the faceplate: Elite SL keypads are 3.25 inches wide, the PR series is 4.5 inches, and the CK series is 5 inches. That measurement alone tells us what you have.
OEM Elite parts are well-built, but Florida humidity shortens the lifespan of any exposed electronics. A quality aftermarket keypad from a company like Linear or Viking often lasts longer in Miami because the housings are sealed better against moisture. We’ll always quote you the OEM option and a good aftermarket equivalent, and we’ll tell you which one we’d put on our own gate. Our trucks carry Elite SL and PR keypads, replacement intercom boards, and complete entry station kits, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keys work only after you press them three or four times. This usually means the membrane under the rubber buttons has cracked or the ribbon connector has started corroding. If you live within a few miles of Biscayne Bay, salt air accelerates this.
- The intercom audio cuts in and out when a visitor speaks. On Elite PR systems, this is almost always the power supply feeding the intercom board. The board itself is often fine, and swapping the power supply is a $75 to $120 fix instead of a $300 board replacement.
- You can hear visitors, but they can’t hear you. That points to the microphone element or the speaker wiring at the entry station. Ants love nesting behind Elite keypad faceplates, and we’ve pulled more fried circuit boards out of ant colonies than we can count.
- The keypad beeps but the gate ignores the code. The keypad is sending signal, but the relay contact has failed or the wiring to the gate operator has pulled loose at a terminal. This is usually a 30-minute repair unless the wiring has been chewed through.
- Intermittent failures that only happen after a downpour. Southeast Florida’s afternoon thunderstorms work moisture into the keypad housing through micro-cracks in the gasket. By the time you notice it, corrosion has started on the board. That’s why we replace gaskets and re-seal the housing lip on every Elite keypad install we do in Miami.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Elite keypad and intercom repair actually costs in Miami, parts and labor together:
- Keypad button membrane replacement: $185 – $265
- Complete SL or PR series keypad replacement: $240 – $360
- Intercom power supply swap: $75 – $150
- Intercom board replacement: $210 – $380
- Full entry station rebuild (keypad + intercom + housing): $380 – $680
The spread comes down to which Elite series you have and whether your existing housing can be reused. Every quote is written down before we start, and it stays the written price. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee: a written price before any work begins, a real arrival window, a clean job site, and a written guarantee on the repair. If the keypad or intercom fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. No re-quoting, no “that part isn’t covered” conversation.
DIY or Call Us?
Elite keypads run on low-voltage DC, so there’s no shock hazard like a garage door motor or a panel box. The honest truth is that a careful owner can do a visual check: open the keypad face, look for ant trails or green corrosion on the ribbon connector, and tighten any loose terminal screws. But once you’re past that, we’d stop. The wiring at an Elite entry station runs through a conduit to the gate operator, and if you cross a pair of wires or short the wrong terminal, you can fry the operator control board. We’ve seen a $200 keypad repair turn into a $700 operator board replacement because someone guessed wrong with a multimeter. For what we charge for a keypad swap, it’s not worth the risk. If you’re in Miami and your Elite keypad or intercom is starting to act up, call us at (850) 409-8032 and describe what it’s doing. Tell us what it’s doing and we’ll tell you what it needs, usually before we even pull out a wrench.
FAQs
In Miami’s heat and humidity, an Elite keypad or intercom module typically lasts 5 to 8 years before the membrane, gasket, or board needs replacing. Coastal properties near Biscayne Bay or along the water in Coral Gables often see shorter lifespans because salt air corrodes the ribbon connectors faster. If your entry station is over six years old and starting to glitch, we recommend replacing the whole keypad rather than patching one component. Call (850) 409-8032 and we’ll quote it over the phone.
Yes, often we can. If the problem is a corroded ribbon connector, a cracked membrane, or a failed power supply, we can repair the existing unit and you’ll pay less than a full replacement. If moisture damage has reached the main board or the housing is brittle from UV exposure, replacement is the better call. We’ll show you what we found and give you the written price for either option before we start.
Most keypad replacements and intercom board swaps take 45 to 90 minutes on site. We carry the common Elite SL and PR series parts on the truck, so if your system matches what we stock, it’s done in one visit. If we need to order a specific board or faceplate color, we’ll tell you before we leave and schedule the return visit in a real arrival window, not a four-hour “sometime tomorrow.”
Yes. Our technicians stock Elite SL and PR keypads, intercom power supplies, replacement boards, gaskets, and faceplates on the truck, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If we don’t have your exact Elite model, we’ll order it and give you a written price and an arrival window for the install. Call (850) 409-8032 and a live person answers, any hour, any day.
