Elite access control installation in Miami typically runs $650 – $1,850 installed, depending on which component failed and whether we’re replacing a reader, controller board, keypad, or the full entry system. We stock Elite-compatible parts on our trucks and can usually diagnose and swap the failed component the same day we arrive. Most owners discover the failure the hard way: the keypad stops taking codes, the card reader blinks but won’t release the gate, or the gate works fine from the remote but ignores the entry panel entirely.
If you’re dealing with an Elite gate operator that won’t respond to the access system, you’re in the right place. We’ve been servicing Elite equipment across South Florida since before most Miami HOAs even required access control on perimeter gates.
Portcullis Gate Repair Miami is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Elite, but we know their access control wiring and compatibility quirks better than most distributors.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate operators have shipped under several model families over the years, and the access control side changes with each generation. The older SL-3000 and SL-2000 slide gate series used a simple two-wire open command from the access panel to the control board. The newer PRESTIGE and MIRAGE series moved to a multi-conductor setup that also carries power for the reader and feedback for gate position. That matters because a part that works on an SL-3000 will not necessarily work on a PRESTIGE without a relay adapter.
Before you order anything, check the inside of your operator cover. Elite stamps the model and serial on a white label near the transformer. If that label is faded or missing, look at the control board: the older boards are green with vertical terminal strips, the newer ones are blue with a compact ribbon-cable header. Snap a photo and text it to us at (850) 409-8032 if you’re unsure. We’ll match the part before we even roll the truck.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Elite’s factory keypads and readers are solid, but their weather seals dry out fast in Miami humidity. We’ve installed plenty of aftermarket readers from DoorKing and Linear on Elite operators with a simple relay interface, and they hold up better in salt air. The one place we always recommend genuine Elite parts is the control board. Aftermarket boards tend to miss the obstruction-sensing logic that Elite built into the operator, and that’s a safety feature you don’t want to lose.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but nothing moves. The keypad is sending the command, but the relay that actually triggers the gate opener has welded or the control board input terminal has corroded. In Miami, corrosion on the board terminals is the number one cause we see, especially on gates within two miles of the coast.
- Card reader lights up but beeps intermittently. The reader’s antenna is losing range, usually because the unit is still sealed but has internal condensation from Florida humidity cycles. It reads your card only when you hold it a quarter inch away. The fix is usually a new reader, not a new card.
- Intercom works at the gate but not inside the house. This points to the phone line or the intercom module, not the Elite operator itself. But access control installs often route through the operator’s auxiliary board, so the failed component can sit inside the same housing.
- Gate opens for a code but won’t close automatically after the timer. The auto-close timer is set on the board, but the magnetic lock or the closing loop detector has failed. Some Miami HOAs run without a closing loop as a cost-saving measure, and the timer alone is unreliable when foliage hangs over the loop trench.
- Whole access system is dead, but the gate works from the remote. This is almost always the access transformer or a tripped GFCI on the access panel’s power run. The operator and the access system have separate power supplies on most Elite installs, so one can run while the other is dark.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we’re quoting in Miami for Elite access control work right now:
| Job | Installed Range |
|---|---|
| Keypad replacement (surface mount, wired) | $220 – $420 |
| Card reader replacement (proximity, single-door) | $260 – $480 |
| Control board swap (Elite OEM) | $480 – $900 |
| Relay / power supply for access system | $180 – $340 |
| Full access control install (keypad, reader, controller, wiring) | $850 – $1,850 |
The range comes down to wire run length, whether the existing conduit is reusable, and whether we need to add a surge protector. Miami lightning is brutal on gate boards. We add a surge suppressor on every access install unless one is already in place. The price is in writing before we touch a single wire, no surprises afterward. Every access control job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails inside a year, we’re back at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the GFCI outlet, test the keypad’s battery or power light, and confirm whether the breaker is tripped. Those are low-voltage-level checks that don’t expose you to line current. If the access panel has power and the operator works from the remote but not the panel, stop there and call us.
Access control wiring runs at 24 volts, but it shares a housing with the operator’s 120-volt line in many Miami installs. The wrong wire crossed inside that box can send line voltage onto a low-voltage control terminal. That’s how technicians get hurt, and it’s how control boards get fried. If the access panel is warm to the touch, smells faintly like burnt plastic, or has visible corrosion on the terminals, don’t open the controller. Call (850) 409-8032 and let us do it with the operator powered down at the disconnect.
FAQs
Eight to twelve years is typical for the control board and keypad, but readers and power supplies near the coast often fail earlier due to salt air and humidity. A good surge suppressor and a sealed enclosure add meaningful years.
Occasionally. A corroded terminal strip or a failed relay can be rebuilt, but board-level component failure is usually a replacement. We’ll tell you which one applies to your board after a bench test, and if it’s repairable, we’ll quote the repair honestly.
A single component swap (keypad, reader, relay, transformer) takes under an hour once we’re on site. A full install with a new controller and wiring run can take three to five hours, depending on the conduit path and whether we’re running cable under a driveway.
We stock the common parts for Elite operators on our trucks: keypads, proximity readers, relays, transformers, and surge suppressors. Control boards are model-specific, so we carry the two most common Elite boards and order the rest same-day or next-day from our Miami distributor. Call (850) 409-8032 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
