We stock and install Linear-compatible fabricated gate components across Miami, with most custom brackets, hinge reinforcements, and slide-gate carriage mounts running $180 to $520 installed, depending on the part and the gate’s weight. If your Linear operator is working but the gate itself is sagging, dragging, or off its track, the failure is usually mechanical: a welded bracket that cracked, a hinge plate that tore loose, or a carriage wheel assembly that seized. We keep common Linear mounting plates and carriage kits on the truck, so we can often make the repair the same day we look at it.
The way most Miami owners find out they have a fabrication problem is slow and annoying. The gate still runs, but it sounds different: a scrape, a hard clunk when it starts, a pause mid-travel. That’s the operator fighting a mechanical bind. Linear’s boards are smart enough to detect excess resistance and reverse, so the gate stutters or stops halfway. The motor isn’t the problem. The metal holding everything in alignment is.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Most of the fabrication work we do in Miami is on Linear’s slide gate operators: the SLR, SLD, and GSD series. These units bolt to a steel carriage plate that carries the gate along a rail, and that plate takes a beating in our humidity. The hinge brackets and mounting plates for Linear swing gate operators, like the LRA and SWD series, fail less often, but when they do, it’s usually the top pivot plate that cracks from years of the gate leaning into the wind.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha with Linear that most people don’t know: the carriage plate and mounting holes changed between the older SL series and the newer SLD series. A plate from a 2005-era SL operator will not line up with a 2015 SLD without drilling new holes or welding an adapter. We see this constantly when a homeowner buys a used operator or a handyman “upgrades” the motor but reuses the old plate. If you’re not sure which generation you have, look at the model sticker on the operator’s side panel. The plate itself usually has the part number stamped into the steel near the wheel axles.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Linear specifically, we’re honest with customers about it. Linear’s factory plates are decent, but they’re not magic, and they can take a week to arrive. Quality aftermarket plates from local fabricators in Miami are often a heavier gauge steel, cost less than the OEM piece, and can be in our hands the same afternoon. We’ll quote both and let you decide. The one thing we don’t compromise on is fitment: the holes have to line up exactly, or the gate tracks crooked and the next failure is six weeks away.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the free end. This is the classic failed top hinge or bent carriage plate. The operator is pushing a gate that’s now grinding against the rail or dragging on the concrete, which shortens motor life fast.
- The gate pauses or reverses mid-cycle. Linear boards read motor current to detect obstructions. A dragging carriage or a seized wheel increases current, so the board thinks something is in the way and reverses.
- You hear a loud clunk when the gate starts moving. That’s usually a broken weld or a bolt that pulled through an elongated hole. The gate takes up the slack suddenly, and the shock load goes straight into the operator’s drive shaft.
- The wheels are wearing unevenly or leaving metal shavings on the rail. In Miami’s salt air, carriage wheels on uncoated steel corrode and pit quickly. A pitted wheel doesn’t roll, it grinds, and it’ll carve up your rail if you let it go.
- You see rust staining or hairline cracks around the hinge welds. Coastal humidity starts surface rust within a year or two on unpainted steel. Hairline cracks at the weld edges are the part telling you it’s done, not later, now.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Miami, a fabricated carriage plate replacement for a Linear slide gate typically runs $220 to $420 parts and labor. A custom-welded hinge bracket for a swing gate runs $180 to $320. A complete carriage kit with four new wheels, bearings, and a fresh plate runs $380 to $520 installed. The range comes down to gate weight, how much grinding or cutting is required to remove the old part, and whether the rail itself needs attention while we’re in there.
Every quote we give is written, priced before we touch the gate, and includes the removal of the old component, the new part, installation, and a function test with the Linear operator. If we see something else while we’re working, we stop and talk to you before any extra work happens. You’ll never get a surprise invoice at the end. And every fabrication repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part we installed fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge, written on the invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a difference between a bolt-on bracket and a structural weld. If you have a bracket that’s loose but intact, you can safely check the bolts for tightness and look for wallowed-out holes. That’s a reasonable Saturday-morning job with a socket set. But if a weld has cracked or a hinge plate has torn, welding on a gate that holds a 300-pound steel panel under spring tension is genuinely dangerous work. The gate has to be properly supported, the old weld ground out cleanly, and the new weld made with the right rod and enough penetration to hold the load. A bad weld on a gate hinge doesn’t just fail; it fails when the gate is moving, and a dropping gate can injure someone badly.
We’ve also fixed a number of DIY attempts in Miami where someone welded a crack without removing the rust first, and the patch lasted about three weeks. If you’re comfortable with the inspection, do the inspection. For the welding itself, call (850) 409-8032 and we’ll give you a written price first.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and painted bracket on a Linear gate in Miami typically lasts 8 to 12 years, though untreated steel near the coast can start rusting in under two years. We use heavier-gauge steel and a rust-inhibiting primer on everything we fabricate, which is the single biggest factor in how long the part survives our humidity and salt air. Call (850) 409-8032 and we’ll assess what’s on your gate now.
Sometimes, but only if the surrounding metal is still sound. If the tear is short and the steel isn’t rust-thinned, we can grind it out and weld it back stronger than new. If the plate is rusted thin or the hinge hole is elongated, you’ll spend less long-term replacing it. We’ll tell you honestly which one you’re looking at before you spend a dollar.
Most carriage plate and hinge bracket replacements on Linear gates take 2 to 3 hours on site. If we need to fabricate a custom piece in the shop first, that adds a day or two, but we’ll quote the timeline up front.
We stock the most common Linear carriage plates, hinge brackets, and wheel kits on our trucks and at our Miami shop, so many repairs happen the same day we visit. For odd sizes or older SL-series units, we custom-fabricate the piece locally, usually within 48 hours. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators if you have more than one brand on the property.
