If your BFT access control system has stopped reading keypads, key fobs, or your gate won’t respond to the entry panel, we can usually get the new part installed and working the same day we arrive. Most BFT access control replacements in Miami run between $340 and $780 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping a keypad, a receiver board, or the full control panel. The most common way owners discover the part has failed is simple: they punch in the code, hear nothing, and the gate stays put while they sit in the driveway wondering if it’s the remote, the board, or the heat finally cooking something inside the box.
We’re Portcullis Gate Repair Miami, an independent service provider, not affiliated with BFT. But BFT is one of nine gate operator brands we carry parts for and service every week, so the technician who shows up already knows what’s inside your control box before the truck stops.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT access control components fall into a few families, and matching the right part matters because the boards are not interchangeable across generations. The older BFT RIGEL and ATHENA control boards use different keypad and receiver wiring than the newer BFT DEIMOS BT and THALIA series panels. If your gate operator has a blue control board with a small LCD screen, you’re likely running a THALIA or ATHENA board. If it’s an older beige or green board with dip switches, that’s typically a RIGEL or earlier series. The model number is printed on a white sticker right on the control board itself, usually in the bottom corner near the terminal strip.
For keypads, BFT makes the MITTO and KLEIO line in both flush-mount and surface-mount versions. The wiring differs: some are 4-wire, some are 5-wire, and the protocol is not universal. A keypad meant for a THALIA panel won’t talk to a RIGEL board without a protocol converter, and those converters cost more than just buying the correct keypad in the first place. We stock BFT OEM parts alongside quality aftermarket equivalents for high-turnover items like keypads and receiver modules. For control boards themselves, we recommend OEM BFT parts, because the aftermarket board clones we’ve seen don’t handle South Florida humidity well and fail early. That’s not a sales pitch; it’s a replacement accounting reality we track on our own truck stock.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad lights up but the gate won’t move. This usually points to a dead output relay on the control board or a keypad that’s lost its programming. The keypad has power, but the signal isn’t reaching the operator.
- Some codes work, others don’t. BFT keypads store codes in non-volatile memory, but after a power surge from one of Miami’s summer lightning storms, memory slots can corrupt. One dead slot today often means more tomorrow.
- The gate opens by remote but not by keypad. This isolates the problem to the keypad or its wiring, not the operator motor or the control board’s gate output. If the remote works fine, the board itself is usually healthy.
- You have to press the button multiple times before anything happens. That’s often a failing keypad membrane or a corroded terminal connection. Salt air near Biscayne Bay accelerates this; we see it on Brickell Avenue panel boxes all the time.
- The system worked fine until a power outage and now nothing responds. BFT boards don’t always recover cleanly from a hard power loss, especially if the battery backup is old. The board may need a factory reset and reprogramming, or the surge took out the receiver module entirely.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Miami, expect these ranges for BFT access control work, parts and labor included:
- BFT keypad replacement: $340 – $520 installed
- BFT receiver module (remote control): $280 – $450 installed
- BFT control board replacement: $560 – $780 installed, including reprogramming all existing remotes and codes
- Full access control panel swap with new keypad and receiver: $700 – $950 installed
Each range depends on whether we’re replacing a surface-mount or flush-mount keypad, how many remotes and codes need programming, and whether the existing wiring is salvageable. Here’s the part that matters to you: the price we quote is the price you pay. We write it down before a single wire gets pulled. If we open the panel and find damaged wiring, we’ll show you, quote the additional work in writing, and get your approval before touching it. No surprise invoice at the end. The new parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and our labor carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails inside that period, we come back and fix it at no charge, written on your invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely check yourself before calling us. First, confirm the operator has power and the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. Second, check that the keypad’s ribbon cable or terminal connections are seated, not dangling. If you’re comfortable with a screwdriver, you can remove the keypad faceplate and look for obvious corrosion or an ant nest. Florida is hard on outdoor electronics, and we’ve found everything from gecko eggs to fire ant colonies inside keypad housings across Miami.
Beyond that, stop. BFT control boards run low voltage, but the operator itself carries line voltage in the same enclosure. One wrong move inside that box while it’s live and you’re dealing with a serious shock hazard. Programming a BFT board also isn’t intuitive; the menu structure on THALIA panels uses the LCD to confirm settings, and one wrong parameter can send your gate slamming into its end stop. If the keypad lights up and the gate still won’t move, call us at (850) 409-8032. We’ll give you a written price and a real arrival window before we ever ask you to commit to anything.
FAQs
Outdoor BFT keypads and receivers in South Florida typically last 5 to 8 years before the membrane, the LCD, or the internal connections give out, and coastal salt exposure near Biscayne Bay can shorten that by a year or two. Indoor or fully enclosed panels often run past 10 years if they’re protected from direct sun and humidity.
Sometimes yes, for keypads with a dirty or corroded membrane contact we can clean and reseal the unit, which buys another year or two at a fraction of replacement cost. For control boards with a burned trace or a dead relay, repair is rarely economical on BFT’s surface-mount boards; replacement is the honest recommendation, and we’ll tell you before you spend anything.
A straightforward BFT keypad or receiver replacement usually takes 45 to 90 minutes once we’re on site, including reprogramming. A full control board swap with all existing remotes and codes reprogrammed runs closer to 2 hours. We’ll give you a real arrival window and finish inside it.
We stock the most common BFT keypads, receiver boards, and remote transmitters on our Miami service trucks, so most jobs are completed on the first visit. If your system needs a less common THALIA board revision, we order it and you keep your place in the schedule; we don’t ask you to order parts yourself or pay upfront for them. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. Call (850) 409-8032 and tell us what it’s doing and we’ll tell you what it needs, usually before we even pull out a wrench.
